  1. I think a couple of the hurdles to digging in my bible is the " how to's", How to start, how to read it, how to apply it, how to understand it, and we get so caught up in all this that we never take the first step to just reading it. Just sitting down and reading a chapter from Psalms. if it seems to be perfect to where you are for that moment, awesome, but if it doesn't read the next chapter or just pray and ask God to show you how this might apply to you right now. Then, the next day, read another chapter in Psalms, one the times you read it, God will speak so intimately to you, it will blow you away. Just keep doing it.
Another hurdle is just finding time, or making time. Sit your bible is a place where you will always go by it, on the couch, on the table, wherever you go by lots. This will be a great reminder to open it up and read it. Set a time, get up 5 min early and read for 5min. When you get home from work, prop up your feet and just sit with Jesus for a few minutes and listen to His words. Sometimes when I really think about Jesus being there with me and He is saying these words to me that can make God's words seem so much more "real" to me.
Well, I will add more later, this is cool and i could stay here all day but I have to go read my bible. haha

  2. 1. What's the biggest hurdle you or your friends have related to digging into your Bible?
I like to call this "The Screen Effect". I've had to create a desk that doesn't have a screen on it (or anywhere near it. Mainly because SCREENS distract me. I've tried reading the Bible online or on my phone (screens), but it just doesn't do it for me. Screens pull my attention so strongly, that I must be away from them, or they'll kill my efforts of "digging into my Bible".

    2. What way(s) have you found to use your Bible effectively?
With a journal close by and a pen in hand.

    3. How do you use the Bible to impact your daily life?
I try to keep ONE key scripture (or thought) from the Bible on top of mind for a day (or two). Really internalize it and make it a part of who I am.

    4. What works for you in relation to reading your Bible?
Again ... no screens. And not trying to set goals of an amount per day or something like that.

  3. 1. What's the biggest hurdle you or your friends have related to digging into your Bible? Lack of time (or putting the effort into making time)

    2. What way(s) have you found to use your Bible effectively? A good bible based (scripture and verses) bible study with discussion!

    3. How do you use the Bible to impact your daily life? The more I read it, the more it impacts the way I live and respond.

    4. What works for you in relation to reading your Bible? Actually sitting down and doing it. Once I do, it usually holds my interest and increases my curiousity.

  4. I wanted to comment on the Bible verses that were suggested for this week. I personally feel the closest to God when I am working in His BIG garden. There is something about seeing all of his majestic creations in nature that helps me connect. I love the parable about the seed in Luke 8:11-15 which I discovered as a very early believer. God so wants his garden to grow. He has planted the seed in our hearts - all we have to do is water it (stay in His word), weed it (avoid sin) and care for it (pray) - if you do this, Miracle Grow isn't necessary. Sometimes it is easy to let the weeds take over and not take the time to truly "care" for the garden. God is patient and He never gives up on you. Just get back to it - pull those weeds and you will feel that great big smile on His face when the beautiful, colorful and magnificent flowers blossom. It is then when I feel His Miracle Grow kick in...

  5. One of the biggest hurdles for me in trying to really "dig in" to my Bible is finding a "starting point," so to speak. As I tried to talk about on Sunday, I'm not always great at just opening the Bible and diving right in. It usually works best for me to have some lead-in materials, like a devotional about a certain topic, or perhaps listening to something that gives me a direction to explore further, or even the topical index in the back, which is so handy for me to be able to use to explore so many of the different issues I want to hear from God about. Usually, if there's something particular I'm interested in, it's there, and it gives me a great starting point.

As far as using my Bible effectively, and what "works for me," I think journaling is a great tool, both for my Bible study, and for my prayer life. I tend to get lost in my thoughts easily, and sometimes it seems there are so many thoughts swirling around in my head that I'm not sure what I'm even thinking at times! Writing down my thoughts, about a particular issue, and what God says to me about that issue through his Word is something that is really helpful for me.
